Dear Zoey: I’m a high school teacher and I have many students who aren’t really motivated. How can I motivate them?
     ~Frustrated Scott Teacher.

Dear Teacher: You should give incentives for accomplishing stuff in class. You could also let your students know that what they’re doing in the classroom really will affect them in life. Most students think they will never have to apply what they learn in the classroom to real life. Give them examples on how what you’re teaching is going to pay off in the long run. Students sometimes needs the extra push.

Dear Zoey: I have no friends. I sit by myself at lunch and I don’t really communicate with people atlonely school. I had a great group of friends, but they all just separated. I guess the saying people grow apart is true. Being friendless doesn’t really bother me, it just gets lonely sometimes.

Dear Loner: I’m the exact same way. Maybe it’s better for you to just be by yourself for a little while. People come and go. Sometimes being your own friend is better than having fake friends. When the time is right, I’m sure people will come to you. You could also try putting yourself out there. Find people with the same interest as you. You might be surprised.

Dear Zoey:I have a huge crush on this boy. Every time he comes around I get nervous. I really want to talk to him, but I don’t want to make a fool of myself. When he sees me he always says hi and  gives me the cutest smile ever, and all I do is stand there awkwardly. PLEASE HELP!

Dear Crusher: Talk to him. You might be really nervous but casual conversation won’t hurt. Don’t immediately let him know you’re crushing though, take baby steps. If the conversation goes well talk a little more to him each day. You never know, he might like you too, but you’ll never find out until you talk to him. The worst thing that could happen is he turns out to be a total jerk. If that happens, it’s okay! You dodged a bullet. Just be yourself. Good luck.
